This article examines the tribes involved in the ethnogenesis of the Karakalpaks, the origin of the ethnic name Karakalpak, and the connection between its ethnic formation and the historical processes that took place in this region. Information is provided on the unique clan-tribal system of the Karakalpaks in the lower reaches of the Amu Darya, the division of the Karakalpak clans into two groups, namely the Arys, their territories, and the similarities between related peoples
